Here at Chemishield, we are all about added value. Our easy-to-use software system delivers safety, compliance, and positive environmental impacts to our growing client list.
Today we wish to discuss another key value proposition on how we also help save our clients’ money!
One of the areas that many organizations can realize great savings in their operations is through hazardous waste disposal. No matter how you phrase it, cost-cutting and finding ways to save money is a serious consideration for any business. Whether it is a global pharma or in private institutions like research facilities in universities, budgets are being stretched thin and organizations are looking for solutions to make their money work harder.
Hazardous Waste disposal operations is one area where it’s important to be efficient in order to maintain costs but it can turn more costly in the long-run if corners are cut. So, how can you ensure you’re making the greatest impact on both your sustainability goals and budget? Here at Chemishield we’ll look at some of the scenarios that may sound familiar to you, and how measures through the implementation of a waste management system can help save you money.
Hazardous Waste is “waste that is dangerous or potentially harmful to our health or environment,” as defined by the US EPA. There are many different types of hazardous waste, it can come in the form of liquid and solid waste. Examples include PPE waste, empty bottles of IPA and of course laboratory chemicals.
Because there are a vast number of hazardous waste types used in industries, it’s important to identify a waste management system and that will keep your facility safe, efficient, compliant with regulations and will deliver significant cost savings on waste disposals. Yes, different hazardous wastes require different procedures for disposal, storage, and off-site removal but by simply taking a look at how you are currently disposing of hazardous waste from your site and benchmarking this against the Chemishield Waste Management system, we are confident it will show you the cost savings you can achieve and the potential for revenue enhancement as a result.
Many of our clients were previously collecting, storing, and shipping their hazardous waste without any tangible insights into their processes around this. What was happening here was that waste was being disposed of, collected in small containers, and then decanted into larger waste drums for removal and disposal without recording the steps of this lifecycle and what was exactly going where. This method was leaving space on the inside of these drums, which was underutilized. The net result was that our clients were previously paying for space they were not using. Another example is where on-site disposal operators were inefficiently using their time trying to identify waste bottles and bins in waste locations for collection, leading to overstocking issues.
How Chemishield Can Help Reduce Costs:
The Chemishield waste management system enables end-to-end management so you can keep track of your waste disposal success!
By modifying business practices to be less wasteful, businesses can save money through understanding fully what they are disposing of. Chemishield’s inbuilt advanced reporting functionality enables companies to track usage in the disposal lifecycle thus providing a way for companies to show internal and external stakeholders that they are not in violation of environmental regulations, and, thus, are not incurring monetary fines. Through public relations, companies can promote environmental successes to preserve an environmentally friendly reputation or to establish themselves as environmental leaders in their sectors, all this can be achieved through Chemshield Implementation!
Fact Based Results:
We recently concluded studies whereby we surveyed 2 multinational pharma client sites. Of the analyst groups surveyed at Site 1, the results determined that over 1% of their day was spent figuring out how chemical waste should be disposed of, this equates to 20 hours per annum of lost time. At one Biotech site with a user group of 250 users, this equated to over 5000 hours of lost time. In comparison, the average disposal time for the Chemisield system from login to disposal is 37 seconds, equating to 2 hours per year per user, a 90% reduction.
At the 2nd Site surveyed, a user group of 335 the cost saving equates to €150k per annum, over 5000 disposals, 2000 litres disposed of and furthermore 38 near misses (accidents) prevented!
We are very proud that our innovative system is enabling companies to future proof their waste disposal processes, keep their personnel and facilities accident-free zones and of course if we can save them money, then everyone is a winner!
